The trustees of the Valatie Free Library have an abiding
interest in local history. At the present time, however, our resources
limit our ability to maintain an archive of genealogical data. One recent addition to our collection that may be of help to family researchers, though, is this listing of grave site information for Valatie-area veterans.
Another valuable resource - available through this web site - is Heritage Quest Online. This extensive data base includes U.S. Federal Census images, full-text references from books and periodicals, revolutionary war records, and Freedman's Bank documents. Access Heritage Quest here. (Requires library card.)
In addition,
we can recommend two very useful sources of information for individuals
researching their family history:
- The Columbia County Historical
Society - Located at 5 Albany Avenue, Kinderhook, NY, the CCHS
features a library containing many items of interest to family historians,
including transcriptions of church and cemetery records, genealogies,
and more. Written inquiries are also accepted. For more information,
visit their web site and
follow the links to "Collections" and "Genealogy".
- The New York State
Library - Located in Albany, NY, the State Library has a large
collection of family genealogies, local histories, DAR records, church
records, census records, early newspapers, city directories, and other
materials. The NYSL web site's Genealogy
Page provides detailed information on access to
the resources, scope of the collection and information about on-site
research.
