On July 3, 1956, Valatie celebrated its Centennial with a five division parade and about 2000 participants. Archie Lebrecht was coordinator of the parade, which included 12 bands and a motorcade with 34 floats provided by church and civic organizations. The night program was based on the theme Rededication of the Principles of Americanism at which Colonel Albert S. Callan, Sr. of Chatham was the principal speaker. Burns Barford Jr. of Valatie acted as master of ceremonies. (from "The History of the Village of Valatie", by Beatrice Rogati)
As part of its contribution to the 2006 Sesquicentennial, the Valatie Library is pleased to present this mini-album of snapshots taken during the 1956 parade. The photos shown here were taken from the Johann Historical Archive, many items of which are now on display at the library. |
